Clarity provided for agents in North of England

On the evening of Thursday 30 July, the UK Government announced a tightening on restrictions for some areas within the North of England in order to protect against the risks to public health arising from Coronavirus.

Propertymark had been in contact with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) throughout the day on Friday, 31 July, to get clarity on the position for agents. On Saturday, 1 August we received guidance stating that estate and letting agents can remain open and house moves, and viewings can continue.

Agents must continue to strictly follow current Government guidance, and again, it has been stressed that all viewings should be conducted as virtual and online in the first instance. Physical viewings should only take place for consumers who show serious intent to proceed with a house move either to purchase or rent a property.

If an agency falls within the affected local areas, they must ensure they continue to adhere to the Government’s guidance on home moves during the Coronavirus outbreak below, we also encourage agents to use Propertymark’s overlaying best practice guidance on house viewings, moves, and checks alongside this by logging into the member area on the ARLA Propertymark website.
